January Skincare Routine: PIXI Skintreats

January: a time for change – and new skincare products!

For Christmas, I was thankful to be gifted with some new skincare treats. This included a lot of PIXI Skintreats products – I have been using them ever since. Now, I am in love!

So, I have decided to show you all what products I use and when I use them, while also giving you all a little review too! (Just so you know, all thoughts are my own and this is not a sponsored post! Just showing my love for these products!)

Cleansing my skin

Once per week, I like to use a face mask or sheet mask on my skin. I tend to mix it up a little to try new products. Recently, I have bought the PIXI Glow Mud Mask which I have been using to help my skin look and feel great. So far, this works the same as the Glow Mud Cleanser, giving my skin a lovely and healthy glow. It isn’t a thick mask, but you can build it up if you like. You just leave it to dry, and then rinse! In my opinion, this dries very quickly, so it’s great if you don’t have much time on your hands.

The Glow Mud Cleanser contains an active exfoliant to reveal a lovely healthy glow. Trust me, this works well. Upon using this on the first go, I really could see the results. I also believe that it has seemed to help my mild blemishes a little, and has reduced any scarring left behind. I find that this type of exfoliator works better than any harsh scrubs, which tend to cause irritation, causing more blemishes. I use this roughly once or twice per week, massaging onto my face and neck, and washing off using a muslin cloth soaked in warm water (note: avoid the eye area when using this product).

I use the Rose Cream Cleanser every day when I am not using my Glow cleanser. I use this by applying a small amount over my face and neck in a circular motion. I then wash off using a muslin cloth soaked in warm water. This helps to keep my skin happy and nourished. I find that this cleanser really helps to calm my skin and does not irritate it like some cleansers can. The cleanser contains rose, avocado, chamomile, and aloe vera to soothe and nourish (as stated on the back of the product). As with most of my PIXI skin products, I only own the travel sizes. Therefore, I will definitely need to purchase myself the full-sized products – particularly the cleansers!

After Cleansing

After I have cleansed my skin, I wipe the PIXI Glow Tonic over my face and neck using a cotton pad. I use this roughly twice a week, or when I feel like my skin needs a little extra exfoliation and glow. On other days, I mostly use the PIXI Rose Tonic in order to keep my skin calm and nourished. Afterwards, I moisturise using my current favourite moisturiser and/or serum. At the moment, I have been using the PIXI Rose Flash Balm, which is great and can also be used to prime skin as well as a face mask!

In addition to these products, I will use the Vitamin Wakeup Mist, or the Rose Water & Green Tea Makeup Fixing Mist, in order to add a little moisture and boost my complexion. These are also used before and after I apply my makeup, depending on what I need. I find that they both work well, but my favourite is the Rose Water & Green Tea Makeup Fixing Mist, as it tightens my pores and leaves my skin glowing and fresh – which also leaves my makeup looking perfect for hours and hours! I find that the Vitamin Wakeup Mist leaves a dewier finish than the Rose Water spray, which can leave my skin looking slightly shiny over time. However, I do have oily skin, so this would work great if yours is dry!

And that’s that! I don’t like to have a very time-consuming skincare routine, but I also do not like to compromise on keeping my skin feeling cleansed and healthy. These products are quick and easy to use and really show results very fast.

What are your favourite products? Have you used any of these? Please let me know in the comments below.

December Favourites: Beauty and Skincare Products

img_20181213_2158059001978949188628659.jpg

It’s that time again: new season, new skincare routine. The last time I did one of these posts, I was preparing for the summer holidays. Now, I sit in my home: cosy, warm, but terrified of the harsh cold weather outside. Let’s face it, winter is great for the festivities, but when it comes to your skin, it’s not all that great. The cold, bleak winds of winter can really take it’s toll on our once sun-kissed, glowy complexion.

That’s why I have decided to write another post on the products I have been using, and loving, to help with my winter skin! I will also discuss other beauty products I have been frequently using to keep myself feeling great over the winter months.

PIXI Skintreats: Makeup Fixing Mist with Rose Water & Green Tea, 80ml

I have only recently discovered this skincare brand, and so far, i’m really loving it. I have heard reviews from other products containing rose water and how it can be really great for glowing skin, such as Mario Badescu: Facial Spray with Aloe Herbs and Rose Water. For full makeup, I use this before and after I apply my makeup. Most days when I do minimal makeup, I tend to just use this after. It all depends really, and it can come down to personal preference as well as trying out what works best for you. I find that once all over your face is enough!

To be completely honest, at the price of £16 from Boots, I wouldn’t say it was considerably cheap. However, for me, this seems to really work. It doesn’t give me a “dewy” finish that just makes my oily skin look oilier throughout the day. What it does do? Well, after using this daily for a week, I noticed that my skin was no longer becoming shiny or oily throughout the day, and my complexion improved drastically – from dull, tired skin, to glowing and refreshed skin. Overall, this most definitely set my makeup – but without the sticky feeling. It also improved the appearance of my skin. I would definitely recommend this! Like I said though, there are other cheaper brands out there, but this is currently one of the better high-street makeup setting sprays I have used so far!

NIP + FAB Hydrate: Dragon’s Blood Fix Plumping Serum, 50ml

This one has been mentioned on my previous post, but since i’m still using it during the winter months, I thought I should say why! The product is dispensed through a pump, which I personally prefer. It comes out clear and has a gel-like form – which is lovely as it melts right into your skin when applying. My skin instantly feels refreshed and moisturised! Although, it is worth mentioning that this product sets into your skin pretty quickly – so make sure to work it in before it dries!

First of all, I apply this before anything else. It acts as my base before I add any moisturiser and my PIXI setting spray. This serum really helps me when my skin needs a little extra moisture. My skin looks fresh and new, and as I prefer to not use foundation during the day, I find that this really helps my skin to look it’s best. Again, NIP + FAB have some great products, and like PIXI, I have yet to try them all! I find that I tend to only use this product when my skin needs a good pick me up. But when used daily, it really does do wonders for your skin! Let me know in the comments if you have tried this product. What are your thoughts?

Korean Egg White Sheet Mask

I can’t really remember where I bought this, sorry guys. I do know that it was definitely from either Superdrug or Primark, though! I have to say, this mask is really good for prepping your skin before a big night out – or for using during the busy party season ahead! It gives a lovely glow to your skin, and makes you feel very pampered and fresh. As with many sheet masks, this does leave a lot of serum on your skin, so make sure to massage it into your face and neck – or remove any extra with a cotton pad.

OGX Brazillian Keratin Smooth Shampoo & Conditioner (Separate), both 385ml

OK. This one isn’t skincare, but it is beauty, and so far I am in LOVE with this particular product. It has done wonders to my hair. My hair is shiny, smooth, and smells amazing. The conditioner is thick, so you don’t need much of it to make a difference to your hair. Scrubbing your scalp as well as the roots can really help your hair to look more refreshed. I shampoo twice, then use a little coin-sized amount of conditioner on the lengths and ends. I leave the conditioner in for a few minutes, and rinse. I really have found my new favourite product for washing my hair – and I will continue to buy this, or try out other products from their range.

VO5 Heat Protect Serum: For Illuminating Shine with Frizz Control, 50ml

After buying this for my summer holiday, and knowing how oily my hair can get, I was not expecting much. However, I gave it a try anyway. My hair can get quite dry on holiday, but with countless trial and errors using different oils and serums, I was a bit worried I would have the same problem with this product. I was completely wrong! This product helped my hair to feel soft and gave it a lovely shine – without feeling oily or weighed-down.

I use this by adding a pea-sized amount to the palms of my hands, and then massaging it through the lengths and ends of my hair. This is done either before drying my hair when it’s wet, or before using any other heat tools on my hair when it’s dry. It really works either way! I will forever be using this product, as I find that it gives a better finish than many of the sprays I have tried. Just to mention, though, I still use heat protection spray now and again, but this serum avoids that damp, sticky feeling on your hair. In addition to all of this, I find that this product does the job with controlling frizz! Even on holiday, my hair did not become as frizzy as it does without. To be honest, my hair kept well for a long time which I was also pleased about.

Autumn Fashion & Beauty Haul

Hey everyone! After a few weeks away from blogging, I have decided to share a post about my current purchases.

Autumn is one of those seasons that I have a love/hate relationship with. It is the season of colourful leaves, soup, jumpers, and hot drinks. But it is also the season of a whole new colour pallette in regards to fashion and makeup!

Yes, it gets cold – and thus, the reason why I hate it at times. I love the summer and the warmth it brings, as well as the longer days (silently dreads the dark, gloomy days ahead). However, I do love the different shades of dark red that it brings to my style. That is why, recently, I have gone shopping to buy a few new items for my wardrobe!

Burgundy button-up dress and check fitted skirt, both from New look:

I love both of these new pieces and I would really love to buy the dress in black too! I decided to buy these because I thought they would be good to wear for work or possibly interviews if styled with a blouse. The thing I love best about fashion at this time of year, is the ability to layer different pieces together to create different outfits.

Now for the skincare and makeup. I recently went shopping to stock up on a few things that I needed. They may not all be related to autumn, as they are useful all-year-round, but I decided to try them out!

Garnier Skin Active Gel Face Wash, under £2 on offer at Boots:

I love this so far! It is so nice to use and it really feels like your skin is being cleansed properly without becoming oily or dry. This one is designed specifically for combination-oily skin, so I definitely recommend this if you are prone to oiliness, but can also get dry skin at times. Every skin is different, I know, but it is definitely worth a try if you want a great face wash at a budget price! They also do a micellar water range in this type of gel face wash, which I also need to try out because I love their micellar water products.

St. Ives Apricot Blemish-Prone Face Scrub, under £5 at Boots:

I have bought and used this before many times, especially during the summer months to keep my skin bright and exfoliated. I have recently ran out of this product, so I HAD to buy more! I love the St. Ives range of scrubs and they do a different one for every skin need. I am prone to blemishes, so I like to use this specific one, but there is another that I would like to try – it’s a nourishing one that keeps your skin soft and nourished – find it on this link!

Soap & Glory Mother Pucker Matte Lipstick in the Shade Cinnamon Beige:

I bought this because I have been wanting to try the Soap & Glory lipsticks for a while! So far, I am not too sure about it. The consistency is great, and not too drying like some of the Mac ones. Also, it seems to last a good amount of time before having to reapply the product.

However, for me, this shade does not work. I think it comes out more of a brown tone on my lips – as mine are quite dark in colour naturally! I do think that it is the perfect shade for autumn, so I may have to give it another chance to see how I feel about it. I can’t remember how much I paid, but I think it was £9 (I also got myself some student discount as Boots were giving 20% off!).

Essie Nail Lacquer in the shade Bordeaux:

I LOVE this colour. Dark red is my favourite anyway, so I usually hate it during the summer when I feel like I have to wear lighter shades on my nails (I usually just opt for a brighter red). The consistency, thickness, everything about this nail varnish is great. Ok, it’s not dead cheap – under £10 but it does work well and applies evenly and stays put quite well with the use of a top coat. A must have autumn shade for me!

I hope you liked this post. If you want, share some thoughts on your favourite products or clothing pieces for autumn…let’s get a conversation going on beauty and fashion! Thanks for reading!

My Most-Used Fake Tanning Products & Review!

Let’s admit it, we all love fake tan. Instead of damaging our beautiful skin with harmful UV rays, we can all fake a summer glow within a matter of hours! Since I wear fake tan most of the time, I thought I would share with you my opinions on a range of fake tan products that I have used over the years.

1. ST. TROPEZ Bronzing Mousse in Dark (200ML)

This has to be up there with the best false tanners I have used so far. I do still need to try others such as Vita Liberata Phenomenal 2-3 Week Tan Mousse (let me know what this is like in the comments below! I will do an updated version of this once I have tried it out myself), but as it stands, ST. TROPEZ has worked very well for me. Before I apply any false tan, I make sure that my skin is exfoliated and moisturised – I usually do this the day before application and then I re-apply moisturiser to any dry areas such as my ankles and knees.

I have found that this false tan does not go as patchy as others, and it does not have that typical biscuit smell of fake tan. As this tan also has a colour guide, you can see almost instantly that the tan will develop into a lovely golden-brown tone – rather than a horrible orange colour. I have found that with my fair skin, this tan suits my complexion the best and does not look too unnatural when I am wearing it. The only con: it is quite expensive, so if you’re looking to save some money, try and look out for the deals online or in stores.

2. Bondi Sands Self Tanning Foam, Dark (200ML)

OK. This tan smells amazing. I am currently using this at the moment and it is definitely worth it. I have managed to get about 6 months use out of this, applying once weekly or less, and I still have some left! Yes, this isn’t too cheap either, but it is a lot cheaper than the more high-end or pricier false tanners – I paid £14.99 for it! The colour of this tan is slightly more brown than ST.TROPEZ in my opinion, as it has a red undertone to it, rather than having an olive undertone. I personally prefer an olive undertone in false tan, but the colour of Bondi Sands is still very lovely. I have found that one pump for each arm, and two or three for each leg is enough for this! Sometimes I have found that two layers can give you a deeper tan, but it all depends on your skin tone, as mine is very fair.

3. ST. MORIZ Instant & Gradual Self-Tanning Mousse (200ML)

I have tried the regular version of this mousse, but after discovering this one, I was amazed. This worked well on my pale and fair skin, and it also developed into a lovely natural-looking tan. I find that this works best for an everyday tanned look – however, I have used this for nights out and I have found that a couple of layers works well also! This tan looks similar to ST.TROPEZ, which was a game-changer for me, as this product is practically ST.TROPEZ at a fraction of the price! I also found that it does not transfer as badly as some products, and it fades quite well too. In my experience, the tan lasts about three to four days before another application is needed.

4. Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Natural Bronze Body Lotion (250ML)

I used to use this religiously back in the good old days of school – you know what I’m talking about, those dreaded P.E lessons, or those warm summer days where you had your legs out and they just HAD to be tanned. I have recently come back to this tanning lotion and out of every gradual tanning lotion I have tried, this has to be the best one. For some reason, my pale skin does not react well with gradual tanners. I never seem to get that gorgeous golden tan that everyone else manages to achieve. However, with this particular gradual tanner, I have found that my skin does go golden after one or two applications – RESULT.

5. Bondi Sands Everyday Gradual Tanning Milk (375ML)

This, again, smells amazing. It has a lovely coconut scent, and applies very evenly. It also dries very well and does not leave you feeling sticky, which is always annoying with other gradual tanning lotions. I have found that it needs a couple of applications before you see any real results, but this all depends on how dark you want to be. In my experience, any type of gradual tanner is best for a natural everyday glow – perfect for summer getaways when you need to prolong your existing tan – or if you want to look naturally sun-kissed without the worry of streaking or going patchy. You also get a lot in this bottle so it is worth your money!

6. ST TROPEZ Gradual Tanning In Shower, Medium (200ML)

I have some mixed thoughts on this product. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great product. I love how you can get in the shower and do your fake tan at the same time, no fuss, no fake tan on your sheets, no worrying about feeling sticky or smelly. It’s perfect really. Almost. The one problem with this false tan, is that it isn’t really that noticeable after the first application. I have tried this and done exactly what it says on the bottle, but I just never seem to get any real results. Now, my skin does take a while to gain any colour with the usual gradual tanning lotion, but that’s because I like to be really tanned.

Don’t be too put off, definitely give this a go if you like the idea of a stress free tan – I must point out, you do have to turn off the shower for a couple of minutes after application to let it soak in before rinsing – but do try it as I have found that after using this daily, it does begin to work quite well. This is definitely something that requires you to apply this daily for the best results – perfect for a holiday though! I haven’t tried this whilst on holiday yet, but I will be taking some with me to see what it’s like! If you want me to give a review on how it went then let me know in the comments below!

My Everyday Summer Makeup Look

I am no professional when it comes to makeup, but I do love to wear it! So, here is a step-by-step post on what I wear for my everyday makeup look.

Occasionally, I try to live by the phrase “less is more” when it comes to daytime makeup. However, when it comes to my general everyday look, I tend to just wear whatever I feel is best suited to the day ahead.

1. First Steps

After moisturising and using my Nip + Fab hydrating serum (mentioned in my favourite skincare products post), I apply a thin layer of foundation. At the moment, I have been using Revlon’s Colorstay for combination/oily skin in the shade Natural Beige 220. This product works so well for my skin at the moment. I find that it is not too drying and not too oily. Although, I do find that my skin can still get a little bit oily when I am on holiday or in warmer conditions. I need to find myself a good foundation that keeps my skin matte, without causing it to dry out – if anyone has any suggestions, please post it in the comments below!

2. Eyes

Next, I usually do my eyebrows (although sometimes I start with these first). I use Obsession Makeup London’s Brow Pomade in the shade Medium Brown. This product works really well for me. I have worn this in a variety of situations, including in the pool and during exercise, and it has stayed put very well! I find that this product also tends to fade away nicely rather than smudging away (unless, of course, I rubbed my eyebrows, then it would smudge a little bit). I definitely recommend this as a cheaper high street option to wear during the summer months, when makeup is prone to being smudged or worn away!

After my brows are done, I use any round blending brush to give my eyes a hint of colour. My go-to pallette is the NYX Ultimate Shadow Palette in Warm Neutrals. I always use the rose/mauve coloured shade along with the darker red tones to define the crease. I finish this off with the white shade to hilight my brow bone.

I also love to use Nip + Fab’s Eyeshadow Palette in Fired Up to create a similar, but more smoky look, using the shade Toffee as a base, along with Cocoa and Safron or Brick in the crease. This is also finished off with a white shade from the NYX palette to hilight the brow bone. Both of these palettes are great for a warm summer look and are great value if you are looking for something similar to a more high-end product. These pallettes also include both matte and shimmery shades for both everyday and evening looks!

IMG_20180723_183227.jpg

After my eyeshadow is done, I finish off my eyes using Revlon’s Colorstay Classic Liquid Eye Pen in the shade Blackest Black. I have tried many different eyeliner pens, as I find that personally, they are much easier to use than with a brush, and this one is by far the best eyeliner I have used! The look I create with this never changes, as I always go for the winged-liner look – without it, my eyes feel very naked! This is then followed with mascara. I am currently using Soap and Glory’s Thick & Fast Flash-Extentions Effect Mascara in the shade Wicked Black. I find that this mascara doesn’t clump as much as others and makes your lashes look a lot longer!

3. Lips & Final Touches

Depending on how I feel, I also use a lipliner to fill in my lips and give them a hint of colour, along with some lipstick. My favourite everyday lip look is when I use Mac’s lipliner in Boldly Bare either alone or along with Mac’s matte lipstick in the shade Velvet Teddy or Kinda Sexy.

For the final touches, I use any type of bronzer or contour in a light bronze/brown shade to define my cheekbones and to give my face a summer glow. I then finish off with a spritz of Barry M Flawless Mist and Fix Matte Finish Setting Spray.

And that’s it, my go-to everyday makeup look! I hope you enjoyed reading! Follow me on Twitter for more blog updates @_favethingsblog ✨💗

June/July Favourite Skincare Products

I love skincare. Everything from serums to moisturisers can be found in my box of beauty supplies. I love to try out different types of skincare products to see how much of a difference they can make. The promise of brighter, blemish-free skin makes us all want to spend our money in the hope of feeling like a goddess – and, might I say, with or without these magical products, we are all beautiful.

And so, I have created a list of my favourite skincare products to share with you all – enjoy!

1. Nip + Fab Dragon’s Blood Fix Plumping Serum.

This stuff works wonders for my skin! I apply this to my face every morning before I moisturise to give my skin a hydrating boost. This is definitely my current number one skincare product.

2. Liz Earle Brightening Treatment Mask.

This has to be my go-to face mask when I’m in a rush for time. You only need to leave this on for as little as 30 seconds for glowing skin! I like to leave it on for at least 2 minutes to give myself that extra glow. I always use this when I’m getting ready for a special occasion and I need a quick skin fix.

3. Witch Naturally Clear Blemish Stick.

I have yet to find a better spot-fighting treatment. (Other witch hazel sticks work just as perfectly, I just happen to have this particular one!). Definitely the best way to get rid of annoying spots and blemishes, in my experience. I always get spots in my t-zone and I have been forever trying to find something that will get rid of them quickly.

When I discover a small blemish or spot, I dab a small amount of this stuff directly onto the area before I go to bed (after washing my face, obviously). In the morning, I wake up to find that the blemish or spot has reduced massively in size, or has vanished completely from my face. Result! For me, this stick works wonders!

4. La Roche Posay Anthelios Ultra Sensitive Eyes Non-Perfumed Sun cream for face (SPF 50+).

This has to be in my list of favourite summer skincare products. I have recently discovered this and I have to say, this is the best sun cream I have used for my face so far. I have oily skin in the summer, especially on holiday, and finding a sun cream that can protect my skin but also combat oiliness has been a challenge for me.

This cream has, so far, worked wonders for me. Usually with sun cream, your face can feel sticky and oily – which is not good for people like me! My skin does not feel oily, and the cream itself feels so light, that I forget I have it on! I will definitely be taking this on my future holidays!
